Shoes and bags: Things I need in my life

Far too many lovely new season shoes and bags around at the moment that keep catching my eye. I sometimes find that a new bag or pair of shoes make for a more exciting purchase than items of clothing, especially if you find something that you can work into your everyday outfit. Whilst the below selection are far from safe and boring, they can easily be worked into a wardrobe of light wash denims and sporty tees... basically all I plan on wearing this Spring!

SPRING SPORTSWEAR

You don't actually have to be sporty to wear this trend (luckily for me!) -just sling on a metallic gym bag and some platform trainers and you're good to go. Wear with luxe-joggers and a silky vest for maximum impact. Trainers, Topshop, £26, gym bag, American Apparel at ASOS.com, £28

PASTELS vs NEON

SS12 is the season to wear pastels and neon together in a big way - try a simple white shift dress with these beauties for a clean, modern look. Brogues, Topshop, £60, satchel bag, River Island, £35.

PRETTY IN PINK

Now I will be the first to admit that I'm not a girly girl but there's no escaping the colour pink this season. Keep the rosy-hues to your accessories and team with prints and neutrals to keep it toned down. Blush wedges, Bertie, £75, pink lady bag, Accessorize, £75.

January: Things I need in my life

It's the 3rd of January and I am very excited about what the year will bring fashion-wise. After arriving home from a New Years trip to Germany I had a browse online and found so many items that I can't wait to buy once pay-day arrives. I have narrowed it down to a few key pieces to set you up for the new season:

(Clockwise from top left)
Lilac skinny jeans, ASOS, £32
Coral saddle bag, Accessorize, £22
Yellow print midi dress, ASOS, £28
Grey studded toe boots, Topshop, £36
Yellow cut out bodycon dress, Nasty Gal, £43.87*
Pink metallic tee, Boohoo, £15
Mint ballet pumps, Topshop, £16

Perhaps a bit too early to start wearing some of these pieces together (have you SEEN the weather today?!?!) but certain items can be worked in with your winter wardrobes - swap your plain skinny jeans for the pastel pair and wear the metallic Boohoo tee under a thick knitted cardi.

*I LOVE this yellow cut-out dress from Nasty Gal; a great US based site with a love of gravity-defying heels, bold prints, brights and bodycon. Definitely worth a browse - www.nastygal.com

Neon accents

As much as I'm excited for Christmas I will be very happy to see the back of sequins for another year. If, like me, you are ready to move on to next season then I have the perfect antidote: neons. For me, SS12 is all about soft neon shades - muted highlighter colours making their way onto oversized jumpers, denim, lace pieces, jewellery and clutch bags.

Lemon jumper, Topshop, £36
Pink laser cut clutch, ASOS, £25
Turquoise lace skirt, River Island, £20
Lavender watch, ASOS, £20
Peach skinny jeans, ASOS, £32

Shopping in Chelsea

If there is one style of boot you must have in your wardrobe this Winter, it is the not-so-humble Chelsea boot. Favoured by Kings Road residents, Alexa, Kate and co and now us mere-mortals, thanks to its inclusion in many a high street collection.

Easy to wear and comfortable for the most part, pick up a black or tan pair for day and a jazzier pair for night - think studs, velvet, sequins and animal print.

(Clockwise, from top left)

Red snakeskin, Topshop, £36
Bright red zipped, Aldo, £120
Dalmatian print, Topshop, £75
Navy and gold, Office, £92
Chunky black heeled, Topshop, £80
Leopard print, Bertie, £119
Tan buckled, Schuh, £78
Patent black, Linzi, £30

Wear your heart on your... chest

Slogan tees are no new phenomenon; most people will remember the House of Holland tees from 2006/7, but this Autumn the slogans have transferred onto knitwear for a fun, outspoken take on the classic winter jumper.

Ashish are leading the way with their range of skiwear for Topshop but who says these jumpers should be restricted to the slopes? Invest in one for a cold day and make the most of your fun side by wearing with printed leggings/coloured jeans and some bold accessories:

(Clockwise from top left)
'Chalet come with you' jumper, Ashish at Topshop, £55
'Piste off' jumper, Ashish at Topshop, £55
Necklace, ASOS, £35
Leopard print watch, Timex at Urban Outfitters, £75
Gold 11" satchel, Cambridge Satchel Company at Urban Outfitters, £98
Leopard print wedges, River Island, £45
Sequinned low-tops, Converse at Schuh, £45
Leopard print panel leggings, Miss Selfridge, £22
Red skinny jeans, Warehouse, £40
