Do the Clash

The once unthinkable is now more than acceptable... clashing prints are in this Spring. As seen at Vivienne Westwood, aka the Queen of bold trends, patterns aren't going anywhere and this season there's loads to take your pic from. A good place to start would be clashing spots and florals together for a very contemporary look.



Try this floral body from Topshop (£25) with these polka dot-tastic shorts from New Look (£20). Chuck on a nude blazer and some brogues and you're good to go.




Don't just clash your clothes, add a bright eye colour into the mix as seen at the Luella SS10 show or a slick of bright lipstick.

Stand to Attention

Military is back for SS10 in a big way, thanks, in a large part, to Balmain (above).

But forget the Military trends of seasons past, this time Military can be worn day and night and in a range of soft fabrics and with beautiful detailing. Long gone are the shapeless khaki combats of yesteryear!

Khaki is obviously the key colour but can be mixed in with black, grey, stone, navy and hints of denim. Any texture goes, from stiff to fluid fabrics, lace to leather, all worn with fierce shoes and a matching attitude.

Once again I bring you the key pieces from the high street and have created three military looks for our modest budgets:

This first outfit mixes up textures for a fairly simple take on the trend, replacing your everyday skinny jeans with skinny khaki trousers and incorporating black lace and a statement jacket. Wedges are everywhere this season and a lot comfier than most other heels. The outfit has a muted palette and is easy to wear.

The second outfit could come straight off the Balmain SS10 runway, taking this seasons love affair with shorts and pairing them with an embellished shoulder tee. The boots are essential to lengthen legs and this ASOS pair add another neutral tone into the mix.

Last but by no means least, the third outfit incorporates this seasons surprisingly easy to wear maxi vest dress for a look that would be perfect for a warm evening (here's hoping!). Khaki doesn't always have to be present for the Military look to work, as this outfit proves, and the waistcoat adds an option for evening wear.

Not strictly fashion related but I feel the need to post on the marvel that is Lady Gaga's video for her new single 'Telephone', featuring the equally amazing Beyonce.







I can't decide what I love more about the video - Gaga's Diet Coke can hair rollers and leather jacket combo, Beyonce's pinup hairstyle, the Americana inspired outfits, the capes or the Pussy Wagon but overall its a musical (and a fashion) revelation.

I'm off to dye my hair yellow, slap on the red lipstick and dance around in spangly hotpants. Enjoy!

Double denim's a risky look but if you're a skinny minnie like Ms Chung (seen here at London Fashion Week with Pixie Geldof) then it's the ultimate fashion-brave look for Spring. Keep everything else simple, a neutral bag and a pair of clogs and you're good to go.

Welcome to Wonderland

Friday sees the release of the highly anticipated version of Alice in Wonderland, directed by Tim Burton and featuring an all-star cast of Tim Burton regulars Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter amongst other high profile actors & actresses such as Anne Hathaway and Alan Rickman.
However the aspect of the film that's got the fashion world talking is the films style, typically Burton-esque, over the top, colourful and quite frankly fabulous. So whether you're more of a Queen of Hearts or an Alice, snap up these inspired pieces and pile on the blue eyeshadow and the red lipstick asap.

London Fashion Weekend 2010

Having not visited London Fashion Weekend since September 2006, before it was moved from its original location at South Kensington to it's new home at Somerset House I approached the event with an open mind.
Somerset House is undoubtedly a glamorous location, well renowned in particular for the ice rink that is held there every winter. However, the narrow halls and cramped rooms of the galleries were not, in my opinion an ideal place to host an event such as London Fashion Weekend. Not only was the event seemingly highly overbooked with scores of people roaming the rooms and getting in each others ways but the show was not particularly easy to navigate your way around. Whilst there are bargains to be had, in my case a fabulous ruffled Sara Berman clutch and a bargain of a Luella cardigan, you really had to hunt for them, and at times I felt like I was rummaging through stalls at a market.

However, what made London Fashion Weekend worth the ticket price was the catwalk show. I, like many other girls, dreams of one day attending a full blown London Fashion Week show, sitting casually amongst the Alexas, Kates and Alexandra Shulman's of the world like I belong there. And although the catwalk show at London Fashion Weekend is not quite up to that level it was visually exciting and easily enhanced my desire to work in Fashion Journalism in the not too distant future.


The show was divided into trend led sections, one of which showcasing a number of designs from Betty Jackson, all styled beautifully by stylist Miss Molly.


Overall I enjoyed the event but I'm not so sure that London Fashion Weekend accurately represented the British fashion scene in all its glory. More of a high street presence instead of the dregs of designer's past-season collections would make for a more inspiring experience for us everyday fashion fans.
