Pointing it out

I have recently begun a love affair with pointed-toe court shoes. Whilst I'm not planning on giving up my penchant for chunky platforms any time soon, this Spring my eye has definitely been turned.

I love the below picture of Poppy Delevigne outside the House of Holland AW12 show at LFW wearing a pair of snakeskin pointed-toe courts. The simplicity of the shoes gives a much more polished look to her neutral outfit than a chunkier heel would do and keeps her legs looking super slim in her skinny black trousers.

If you're looking to snap up a pair on the high street I'd recommend going for a pastel or metallic pair to compliment this seasons colour palette, or go classic with a snakeskin-look pair like Poppy. I've got my eyes on the pastel pink toe-capped Zara pair - perfect with a pair of pastel skinny jeans.

Stylist loves Kylie

Fashion magazines are there to inspire us and I love the feeling of flicking through a beautifully styled Main Fashion shoot and the ideas it helps you develop in relation to your own style.

This week's Stylist magazine is a perfect example of the above; 25 images of Kylie Minogue shot in LA, styled by 25 designers to celebrate 25 years in show-business (see what they did there?!). If you didn't manage to pick up a copy then feast your eyes over my favourite images from the shoot:

Kylie in Richard Nicoll

in Mary Katrantzou

in Antonio Berardi

in Peter Pilotto

in Roksanda Ilincic

The final image is my favourite - LOVE the hair and the contrast of the fuchsia dress and the lavender flowers in the foreground. Check out the rest of the shoot at www.stylist.co.uk

In homage to Ms Minogue I'm off to get an 80's perm and a pair of gold hotpants...

Lana Del Ray Love

I've always got room for a new style-icon in my life and I am seriously contemplating adding 25-year old US singer Lana Del Ray to the list.

Her glossy old-Hollywood features and preppy Americana wardrobe are almost as intriguing as THAT voice, you only need to watch her latest video for 'Born to Die' to be inspired by her style.

Lana loves a denim cut-off/Converse combo but looks stunning in an elegant-made-modern white gown whilst casually sitting next to a pair of calm looking tigers (as you do). Added to a few pieces of statement jewellery, her make-up is an accessory all in itself: bold feature-defining eyebrows, clear bright skin, loose wavy hair and a touch of deep red lipstick. The occasional bit of nail-art doesn't go a miss and neither do a fabulous pair of false lashes. Definitely a style we can all be inspired by!

Lana is a perfect mix of old and new style and definitely one to watch for 2012... snap up the following essentials to get her look:

Gold chain necklace, ASOS, £12

Unlikely style icon: Ariel

The mermaid look is big news this season...

Thanks to Versace and Chanel, mermaid-esque fabrics and underwater prints are dominating the shops, making an appearance through soft metallic tints, underwater-inspired colours and crustacean-themed jewellery. Think soft blues, greens, whites, silvers and peaches in floaty, tangible styles. Never thought of Ariel as a style icon? Maybe it's about time you did!

Versace's seashell print was a big hit on the SS12 catwalks, as were Chanels soft metallic dresses and separates, rounded off by a few amazing accessories (see Chanel's seashell clutch and Versace's seahorse wedges if you still need convincing):

Now whilst most of us can only dream of owning a Chanel seashell clutch (or a Versace mermaid blow dry for that matter), there are plenty of mermaid-inspired items available on the high street for a fraction of the price, my particular favourite being the peach-metallic pleated skirt from Topshop. Wear with a silky tee, shimmery skin and nude heels for a stunning look. Look for fabrics that lightly skim the body, details such as fishtail hems and soft shades with a metallic sheen and you can't go wrong.
